Our desire to foster true relationships — to be truly known and truly know others

WELCOME

Welcome to the website of the EGOLI PSYCHOTHERAPY TRAINING INSTITUTE.

The Institute, established in 2006, is an educational organization, created for the purpose of offering psychology  training, of an exceptionally high standard, to mental health professionals, and non professionals, who wish to advance their personal knowledge, growth and development, as well as their professional skills.
We offer both short and long term courses and workshops, focusing on topics that are relevant to our South African context, while furthering the understanding of the field of psychology as a whole, so that our graduates are enabled to play a more meaningful role in society both personally and professionally.

Our client/student base is drawn from all demographic groups within South Africa and beyond.

Some of our courses are structured in such a way that they address the needs of mental health professionals who wish to enhance their professional skills, or obtain an additional qualification and registration with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy.   Others are designed for beginners or individuals who are not necessarily mental health professionals, but are interested in personal growth and insight, or who belong to organizations and/or institutions where lay counseling skills are required, or who are in other helping professions.

Some of our workshops also offer lay counseling skills training, or specific behavioural management training, such as anger management skills, to groups and organizations.  Such workshops are specifically tailored for these purposes.

We also offer brief and longer-term psychotherapy, and supervision to individuals and groups.

OUR APPROACH

Our approach to psychotherapy is fundamentally integrative.  What this means is that we not only draw from and integrate a variety or theoretical approaches, but we also integrate different modalities of being and self expression, for instance the physiological, the psychological, the emotional, the behavioural, the social, in an attempt to create a higher order paradigm which embraces every aspect of the individual’s functioning.  Our methodology, which incorporates all of the above mentioned aspects, is also strongly relational.  We focus on the space created between individuals, as well as the unique elements and contributions of the individuals involved in the creation of that space.

Our approach to psychotherapy and counselling are based on our students/clients achieving both self-knowledge and the ability to form and to maintain high quality relationship – to achieve awareness, intimacy, spontaneity and autonomy

THE QUALITY OF OUR PRODUCT

Our courses lead to a Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy, which meets the requirements and is endorsed by the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute (SPTI) in Nottingham. Candidates who qualify for the diploma, and complete the necessary requirements (see below) are also entitled to register with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Qualified diplomats are then entitled to work as psychotherapists in the UK.

In order to be accepted for the Diploma training, students will need to be registered with a professional body such as the HPCSA to practice psychotherapy in South Africa.

Students who wish to obtain the Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy, accredited by the Sherwood Psychotherapy Institute (as mentioned above), and register with the UKCP, are required to attend all the modules, submit all assignments (one after each module, obtaining a minimum of 50%) for marking, and other parallel clinical requirements.

FACILITIES

Training takes place predominantly at our training facility in Wendywood/Morningside.  We have a large lecture room, situated inside a secure private residence.  There is ample room to attend lectures/workshops/seminars and to enjoy the quiet garden surroundings during breaks.

Occasionally, we will offer workshops at other venues.

Psychotherapy is conducted either at Cheryl’s rooms or Sharon’s rooms.

The Institute has a comprehensive library of books available for registered students.

A WORD OF CAUTION: Our courses could be life-changing!

Undertaking any form of advanced learning has a potential impact on one’s life.  Most of us commit to advanced learning for many reasons, such as development of skills, earning extra CPD points, or adding another qualification to what we already have.  We do not necessarily consider as sufficient motivation, a deeper experience of life and relationships.  Our experience and that of our students has been, however, that as they get underway on our courses, they experience themselves and their lives changing in positive ways.  Friendships are forged during the training that are deeper than previously known.  In fact, some have said that the personal shifts that they’ve made have been of equal or greater value than the academic learning that has taken place.

We’re in this profession to make a difference to the lives of others and to society.  Mostly we are focused on enhancing our ability to do so.  How valuable is it then, to engage professionally in a meaningful way, that also makes a difference to ourselves too, on every level.
